If you only have one chance to visit Corfu you had better choose Spring and especially Easter week because it brings out all natural and cultural beauty. The most distinctive characteristics of Easter in Corfu are the classical music concerts and opera church music. It starts on Palm Sunday at 11 in the morning. The procession of the Holy body of Saint Spyridon takes place around the town because he saved the Ireland from cholera.

On Good Friday the epitaph processions begin at 2.00 in the afternoon. At the epitaphs take part a multitude of local schools, boy and girl scouts and young girls holding baskets of flowers. Late in the evening starts the procession of the last but the most imposing epitaph the one of the Cathedral.
On Holy Saturday at 9.00 in the morning there is another procession of the Saint Spyridon and the epitaph of the same church. This time the Saint saved the Ireland from famina. The philharmonic band of Corfu plays the famous “ Amleto” by Faccio. It is a masterpiece of classical music!.

At the strike of 11 the locals come out on their balconies all over town and throw big pots on the ground making such a loud noise. The custom is very old and it is believed that it signifies the noise during the Resurrection of Jesus.

At midnight all people locals and tourists gather at the main square of Corfu in order to celebrate the Resurrection with glory and many impressive fireworks. If you have not experienced it you can not imagine.. Happy Easter to everyone!😃😃😃😃😃
